S.B. Gravity Colonics
FAQs
What is a Gravity Colonic?
Helen Woods describes it best:
“A colon irrigation using the Wood Gravitational Method is an internal bath that helps cleanse the colon of poisons, gas and accumulated fecal matter. Unlike an enema, it does not involve the retention of water. There is no discomfort, no internal pressure, just a steady gentle flow of water in and out of the colon. At the same time, an abdominal massage is given to stimulate the colon to recover its natural shape, tone, and peristaltic wave action”
Difference between Gravity Colonic, Colon Hydrotherapy, Colon Cleansing, Colon Irrigation?
These terms are all interchangeable, each describing the same thing: cleansing the colon with water. “Colonic” is the most common used term. However, not all types of colonics are the same. Gravity colonics are the most natural. They are in great demand, especially in California. I’ve tried all versions, open system, pressurized systems, machines, enemas- gravity without a doubt, feels the gentlest, and gives me the quickest most noticeable results.
What happens during a Gravity Colonic Session?
The gist :
Warm filtered water enters the large intestine from a 5 gallon tank hung on the wall above your body. The water is fed through a small surgical tube that is connected to a medical grade speculum inserted into the anus. Water and waste exit simultaneously through a larger surgical tube connected to plumbing. Once the water enters, gravity does its job. We allow time for the water to soak the intestine for as long as needed for the waste to exit. Gentle abdominal massage is performed to help aid the process.
This is a closed system. There is no smell and no mess. I am with you throughout the entire session. Comfort, safety and professionalism are my top priorities. Your only job is to sit back and relax!
Are these sessions safe? Are there side effects?
Gravity Colonics are extremely gentle on the body. I find them to be much gentler than enemas and other forms of colonics that use machines and pressure. They are incredibly safe and healing. People are amazed at how relaxing the warm water is and how light they feel after a session.
Depending on your body’s toxicity level, it is normal to experience minor, non-threatening detox symptoms after your first few sessions (tired, headache). This can occur as the water is awakening toxic matter that has been stagnant for years and years. Some light abdominal cramping can also be common during the session. This is a sign that the process is working and elimination is on its way. Most clients feel alive and rejuvenated during and after a colon hydrotherapy session.
Who gets colonics and why are they needed?
Colonics are a gentle, healing practice. Unless you are experiencing any contraindications, anyone can benefit from getting a gravity colonic. They are used as an aid in healing more serious health conditions, help with mild to chronic constipation, and assist in for vanity purposes (de-bloat, glowing skin, flatter tummy). You would be shocked at how much waste is stored in our large intestine. People who “brag” about being regular are shocked at how much waste is stored in their body after receiving a gravity session. Many diseases start in the gut and colon. If we lived in an organic, toxic-free world, colonics would not be needed. Unfortunately, that’s far from our reality. Before medicines were invented, nurses used to give colonics to sick patients in hospitals. Colonics provide relief to many. In my humble opinion, they are one of the best self care rituals you can invest in. Be sure to check out the contraindications page before booking :)
Where can I find more info?

How often should I do Gravity Colon cleansing?
How often you come varies person to person. Your colon will get stronger with each session so consistency is key! Your therapist will recommend what they think is best for you personally, but it is of course up to the individual. I love to get a session every one to two weeks. It leaves me feeling energized and refreshed. If for some reason I am feeling groggy or have eaten something that doesn’t agree, I will do a few sessions in a week.
How long does a Gravity Colon Hydrotherapy session take?
Anywhere from 45- 75 minutes. I would allow 1.5 hours for your first session. Every session is unique to the individual.
What is the purpose of having a Gravity Colonic? What are the benefits?
The benefits of colonics are endless. I myself have seen a miraculous difference in my overall energy and wellbeing since receiving consist treatments. I’ve let go of excess weight, I have more energy, I make healthier food choices knowing that directly effects what my body holds onto, my chronic neck inflammation and fatigue have gone down drastically. People come to get sessions for a variety of reasons. Some for more vanity purposes- decrease bloat, flatten tummy, maintain a healthy weight. Others with more chronic issues rely on sessions to feel relief and aid in healing ailments.
How do I prepare for a session?
See preparation page :)
Will I lose weight?
You will most certainly lose weight in gas and waste! Our colon (aka our large intestine) can hold up to 7-10 pounds of waste per foot of our intestines! Our large intestine alone is an average of 5 feet in length... you do the math. If you are holding on to extra weight, a healthy diet full of plant based foods and minimal animal proteins, supplemented with colonics, acts as an amazing weight loss regiment. If you are not holding on to excess weight, colonics will help you maintain a healthy, balanced body mass.
Will my my good gut bacteria be washed out?
This is a very common misconception. The easy answer is no. In order for good gut bacteria to thrive, the removal of toxins and build up must be removed. Colon hydrotherapy helps gets rid of old fecal matter in order for our good gut flora to cultivate in the way it was deigned to naturally. A gravity colonic does wonders for your gut!
Will I become dependent on colon cleansing?
No, exactly the opposite. A Gravity session is like a trip to the gym for your colon. The more sessions you have, the stronger your colon will become on its own. The inflow and outflow of water, combined with the mimicked peristalsis (light pulsing of the tubing) helps strengthen the colon muscles overtime to help you go #2 on your own more readily. If you find yourself continuously constipated, consistent gravity sessions are some of the best things you can to do get you colon back in shape.
What if I’ve had surgery?
You must wait at least 6 weeks after any surgery or procedure to receive a session. If any sooner, a doctors referral must be provided.
Is it embarrassing to have a gravity colonic? Does it hurt?
Not at all! The concept is hard to grasp for many at first (myself included- I had no idea what to expect!) and that is completely understandable. Your body is fully covered and there is no odor or mess. Many come to find sessions to be therapeutic and relaxing. Your therapist will be with you the whole time to explain the process and chat about whatever comes up. If you prefer silence and music, we can absolutely accommodate! If you want to chat about life- it’s encouraged!
A small medical grade speculum is slowly inserted into the rectum to allow for warm, filtered water to slowly enter the large intestine. Everything is slow, gentle and communicated step by step. Some light cramping may arise- this is completely safe and normal. It means things are working!
Can I receive a treatment during my menstrual cycle?
Yes, in fact many women report the lessening of cramps and pressure when they receive a session close to or during their cycle. I for one have noticed a huge improvement when I get a session right before my cycle starts. This is completely up to personal preference!
Do men get colonics?
Absolutely. It is typically a harder concept for men to grasp and agree too, and that is completely understandable. This treatment is loved and embraced by all. Real men get colonics ;)
Can I receive a treatment if I’m not feeling well?
Absolutely. A colonic is an excellent treatment to receive to speed up the recovery process after falling ill or feeling sick. Please inform your therapist of any symptoms before coming in for further evaluation.
Can I have a session if I’m pregnant?
Yes, but only if you’ve had consistent gravity colonics before and only during your 2nd trimester. If you’re new to colonics, it is imperative to wait until after you’ve given birth to receive your first session.
How will I feel after the session is over? Can I resume normal activities after a colonic?
Many people say they feel regenerated after a session. ‘Vibrant’, ‘awake’, ‘alert’, ‘light’, ‘happy’, ‘relief’ are just a few words that have been thrown around. Many go about their daily lives after sessions- exercise, work, errands, etc- with a newfound sense of energy and umph!
It’s also normal to feel tired after your first few sessions. This will differ from person to person! It’s recommended to leave some time after your first few sessions to see how your body responds.
